Leviathan [15/50]

Leviathan (Leviathan #1)
Rating: Good. I hope to get around to reading the next one.

*spoiler free*

I read this book in multiple sittings at work.
After finishing it I feel 3 things:
1- It was a little rough to get into but worth the wait.
This story is told through two characters in tandem.
I really ended up loving one character over the other
so it was a little harder to read when in the other characters world.
2- I loved Deryn.
Seeing this alternate historical world through her eyes is fun.
Plus she has some great quotes. As seen below.
3- The book made me want to read more alt history stories.
This story takes place pre-World War I with animals who
have been scientifically blended to create war beasts
and really intense war machines that seem
like they stepped out of Star Wars.
(ie. the walkers)
But the coolest (read: nerdiest) thing is in the last pages,
Westerfeld discusses what is real and what he made up!
Turned out to be my favorite part of the book!
Weird.
Nerd.

Deryn has so much spunk throughout the book.
It is so much fun to follow her character.

This part made me LOL irl!
And any point in a book that brings out irl LOLs
needs documentation. Obviously.

Swooning Over Traces

Traces is the most unique show I have seen at the Denver Center.
&& that is saying something because I saw the Blue Man Group there!

My friend Chris called it an 'urban circus'
and while that name is pretty accurate--
it's not nearly encompassing enough!

Words used to describe this show could be
 astonishing | dazzling | spectacular
skillful | gravity-defying | brilliant
dramatic | impossible | outstanding
effortless | emotional | fantastic
&& more but to be honest,
words simply can't encompass this show.

It is performance art and the only way to describe this show is to see it.

Lucky for you, reader, the creators at 7 Fingers
understand the power of the internet and social media.
The audience is allowed to take as much
video and non-flash photography as they want!

Oh-no! I wasn't excited about this revelation at all!
/sarcasm!

Although the acrobatic stuntsof the show are undeniably
superawesometastic!

This show will speak to you.
Be it on the whole or even just a moment.

My favorite was one of Valérie's solo acts.
It spoke to the book nerd in me!
Not only is she so spunky and fun to watch
it reminded me of all the times I have gotten lost in a book,
so deep inside an imaginary world,
I have no idea how my reading position looks to anyone else.
Though, Valérie looks way more cute and impressive doing it.

Remember how I mentioned VIDEO!?
So if hearing that news didn't make
the vlogger in me squee
I dunno what would!
It did btw!

I ended up taking 40mins of video!
It was very hard not to say, 'wow, Wow, WOW!'
the whole show but I think I managed...
But there is 40mins, so I haven't sifted through all of it.

I did however post 2 really crappy cellphone videos online:
our sneak-peak at warm-ups.
during the show!

....yeah from the really pixelated clips (if you followed the link)
you might be aware of another really good reason to see this show...

 The artists are really attractive.
Not only that but when I met them at the opening night party
they were so nice and humble.

But let's be honest again,
it is not hard to watch them for 90mins.
Not at all.

As you can see,
it is really easy to get excited about this show...
So I will be blogging and posting videos about Traces a lot!

It's showing at the Denver Center (obvi!)
Mar 11, 2011 - May 14, 2011
Tickets start at $10

Kiss and Blog [14/50]

Rating: Good for reading on the fly.

*spoiler free*

I read this book in a few shifts at work and one snowy afternoon.
After finishing it I feel 3 things:
1- It was cute.
This book is clearly aimed at a younger crowd that me,
but that didn't stop me from enjoying the read.
It certainly reminded me that I don't miss high school.
2- I loved that it was a story about a girl
finding her place in a very real way.
She had conversations and trials that were very believable.
I think that it is an important story to have out there.
In 5th grade my bffs & I were the first kids to get our own email accts
and now 5th graders have their own cell phones!

Sure it has been written before but what Noël brought
to the table was a current timetable.
3- I felt that this book is a good travel book.
By that I mean, the story is easy to follow and
the characters are easy to grasp.
So it is a good pick-up/put-down book. You won't feel lost.

I liked that quote because it compares the two former bffs in a perfect light.

Bahaha, this one was just fantastically awkward!
Having this convo with one's parents (or vice versa for some)
is generally never boring and always embarrassing.
That being said I loved the language used.

Hush, Hush [13/50]

After this post,
I have been putting off finishing this book blip...
Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush #1)
Rating: I read this one. That was enough.

*spoiler free*

I read this book in a few sitting over a few days.
After finishing it I feel 3 things:
1- I didn't hate it.

But it didn't captivate me.
2- I did 'hate' that Patch and Nora met in Bio.
Apparently high school biology class is where one meets their soul mate.
I only met a really awesome chick who was my bestie that year.
This isn't the author's fault/I am just sick of that story line.
{next is a minor spolier}
3- I did like the scenes that described a false reality.
It was my favorite thing the author did in this book.
Her description of what was happening to Nora left me
just as confused as her character.

*spoilars!*
 aka.*favorite quote*
This was the funniest line in the book for me!
...though it might be funnier in context!
