A Great Day for the Whedon "Family"

Today the internet kerSPLODED over the announcement of 

Much Ado About Nothing 'the movie based on a play'...

And as a gal of the Whedonverse and a theatre addict,

not to mention Much Ado is my favorite Shakespeare play,

my nerd kerSPLODED along with the rest of the internet!

Seriously, I AM SO EXCITED!

Unfortunately Much Ado will be hitting the festival circut first

and then maybe it will get a limited or indie release.

But I. AM. THERE!

reached it's $70,000 fundraising goal with 17 days still on the ticker!!

Swooning Over Traces

Traces is the most unique show I have seen at the Denver Center.

&& that is saying something because I saw the Blue Man Group there!

My friend Chris called it an 'urban circus'

and while that name is pretty accurate--

it's not nearly encompassing enough!

Words used to describe this show could be

 astonishing | dazzling | spectacular

skillful | gravity-defying | brilliant

dramatic | impossible | outstanding

effortless | emotional | fantastic

&& more but to be honest,

words simply can't encompass this show.

It is performance art and the only way to describe this show is to see it.

Lucky for you, reader, the creators at 7 Fingers

understand the power of the internet and social media.

The audience is allowed to take as much

video and non-flash photography as they want!

Oh-no! I wasn't excited about this revelation at all!

/sarcasm!

Although the acrobatic stuntsof the show are undeniably

superawesometastic!

This show will speak to you.

Be it on the whole or even just a moment.

My favorite was one of Valérie's solo acts.

It spoke to the book nerd in me!

Not only is she so spunky and fun to watch

it reminded me of all the times I have gotten lost in a book,

so deep inside an imaginary world, 

I have no idea how my reading position looks to anyone else. 

Though, Valérie looks way more cute and impressive doing it.

Remember how I mentioned VIDEO!?
So if hearing that news didn't make
the vlogger in me squee
I dunno what would!
It did btw!

I ended up taking 40mins of video!
It was very hard not to say, 'wow, Wow, WOW!'
the whole show but I think I managed...
But there is 40mins, so I haven't sifted through all of it.

you might be aware of another really good reason to see this show...

 

 The artists are really attractive.
Not only that but when I met them at the opening night party
they were so nice and humble.

But let's be honest again,
it is not hard to watch them for 90mins.
Not at all.

As you can see,
it is really easy to get excited about this show...
So I will be blogging and posting videos about Traces a lot!

Being 'Guilty' for Spring Awakening

Do you remember this post? The one where Wicked was AMAZING!?

Remember when I saw that SPRING AWAKENING was on tour en route to Denver?

Remember when I didn't say what Spring Awakening is or about...?

oops.

Well I hope to rectify that with this blog.

 SPRING AWAKENING takes its inspiration from one of literature's most controversial masterpieces - a work so daring in its depiction of teenage self-discovery, it was banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years.

It's Germany, 1891. A world where the grown-ups hold all the cards. The beautiful young Wendla explores the mysteries of her body, and wonders aloud where babies come from, till Mama tells her to shut it, and put on a proper dress.

Elsewhere, the brilliant and fearless young Melchior interrupts a mind-numbing Latin drill to defend his buddy Moritz- a boy so traumatized by puberty he can't concentrate on anything. Not that the headmaster cares. He strikes them both and tells them to return to their lesson.
One afternoon -in a private place in the woods- Melchior and Wendla meet by accident, and soon find within themselves a desire unlike anything they've ever felt.

As they fumble their way into one another's arms, Moritz flounders and soon fails out of school.

BUT KAT! WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH!?


Well let me tell you my story about my relationship with SA:
 
I first heard of Spring Awakening when I stumbled across Charlotte Wakefield's You Tube [She played Wendla in the Original London Cast] and her channel has some of her memories from the show in video format. Since then she also added recordings of "Mama Who Bore Me" and "Whispering" after the London run was over.

& then you know of course that I saw the banner outside of Wicked.


What you don't know is after I got home I took to the interwebs and tracked down Spring Awakening on Facebook. Sure enough the Denver Center had made a fan page but there was something else added to the title:
The Guilty Ones.

You may be thinking: huh? Yeah. Me too.


At this point in my SA love story I hadn't heard all the songs, but alas, there is a song called... you guessed it: "The Guilty Ones"



BUT KAT! WHAT ARE THE GUILTY ONES!?


In short. I am one of them.

The history of The Guilty Ones starts in New York

but I am in the Denver group.
(obvi)

The Guilty Ones are the fans who act as the official street team of guriella marketers.

We bring it to the streets, yo!

Haha. But really, that is what I am doing. Because I love the music of this show!

BUT KAT! YOU SAID YOU LOVE THIS MUSICAL!

I do! I just have never seen it!

When I see it on the [first national tour] it will be the first time I see this show live!

Honestly, I see that as a testament to how awesome and powerful the music is...

It pulls you in!

Halloween with Wednesday Addams

Want a run down of my Halloween?

...

Too bad.

You are getting one!

...hm...

On a Saturday morning I woke up at 9:15am!

Ok, for some that's nuthin'...

But for me that is a miracle!

Friday night, I looked everywhere for my needle so I could sew black fabric onto the white and blue flowered footie thing the doll I got to torture... No where. So I woke up early to run to the craft store and corner store with Momo for some last minute things.

I didn't get the dress sewn in time to put the doll in it but I had already painted creepy stuff in black over parts of the doll and used a stray black shoe lace for a noose... So I left for work like that.

I worked from 2-5 since I was sent home early, but I stuck around until 6 since I was the only 'morning' shifter to dress up=( ...and i wanted to see what some of the night staff thought up.

My favorites were Matt as a jedi/sith and Lauren as Elliot Reed from Scrubs. [There were a few categories for dressing up in costume but we don't know the winners yet.]

When I got home, I went straight to work on making a tin foil butcher knife (for Chipotle) and finishing my creepy doll's dress. It took me right up until we left at 8:30 to put the finishing touches to my costume.

Roommate Momo was Eve in the Garden.

I was Wednesday from the Addams Family.

Together we joked that we were dressed up as two different kinds of evil... It was silly of us but in a way it made sense.

First stop was Chipotle!

Srsly, it's like Trick or Treating for big kids!

We got to Chipotle RIGHT on time.

There was a decent line in front of us...

 

But by the time we got to the part of the line where I got bored and started to take pictures the line was curling around inside and basically ended at the front counter!

We were so happy with our free burritos, that we forgot to take a picture of our bounty and I was more than half done with mine by the time we got to our first party!

Josh(Mo's friend from class)'s party was really chill and we spent the bulk of our night there... But it was super fun and I think that is why I didn't take many pictures there... Other people did, but I'd feel wrong ripping them off their Facebooks...

Or maybe it's because I just sat at the kitchen table for most of the time I was there and stuffed my face. SO.WORTH.IT!

Around 11pm, we left Josh's for The Boys House.

It is called The Boys House because for at least the last 5 years (probably longer) the majority of the house's roommates are made up of musical theatre majors! The reason the party didn't start until 11 was because nearly everyone invited was performing or watching the performance that night and needed time to go home and switch costumes. Although I knew a lot of people I went for Jared =]

He decorated the place and it looked crazy awesome! But mostly I went because Jared said he was going to do Halloween in drag this year and he has never done drag before...!

We only stayed at the Boys until a little past midnight since I only knew a few people, Mo didn't really know anyone, and both of us were super tired (cause we are old and lame)... But it was worth it to go at all because I declare:

Theatre kids have the best costumes!!!

I think I was even asleep by 3am for once!

/I plan on making a video about the Trick-or-Treaters who stopped by, since it was quite interesting, and at times creepy. I'll link it and Tweet it when its up./

For the first time, I feel - Wicked!

The day was Tuesday the 13th of October and it officially ranks as one of the best nights of my life...

 

I finally got to see Wicked live!!!

-but-

...let us rewind...

I tweeted about how excited I was and even what I was wearing.

[An outfit I am very proud of and felt very BusyBeeLauren tweeting about it!]

Around 3:00MST I left Northern Colorado as Mum left Southern Colorado to meet up and drive to the theatre together.

*note to self*

Always double check the rendezvous point!

On the way, I made a classic Kat move and got off the highway at 144th Ave and parked in front of the Ross in that shopping center and called Mum, since I didn't see her car anywhere.

She said that she was inside Ross and would be out in a sec. Well, being oh so proud of my outfit, I hopped out and sauntered through the Ross doors... and waited.. and waited..

After 5min I called Mum, she said she was out in the parking lot waiting for me, but I went to look and she wasn't. Whaaat?! We started listing off the stores we saw around us...

Clearly we both saw Ross.

I saw Staples. Mum saw Office Max.

...and that's when it hit me...

We were not in the same place.

I went back inside and asked the Ross people what the address was and asked Mum where she was... I was at 144th Ave; Mum was as 104th Ave...! Who knew that 40miles apart there was basically the same shopping center!

So I hopped back on the highway and found Mum at the 104th...

Being me is good times.♥

So anyways...

Mum and I parked right next to the theatre and then walked 16th for a bit to figure out where we wanted to eat dinner. It was so exciting for me to see the tech bus just casually parked to the side of the street. Just think of it...EVERYTHING fits into this truck!

Also there were advertisements for the show everywhere!

Unfortunately, as the temperature of the evening dropped, the more impatient for dinner we both got. So, instead our tummies dictated that we eat at the closest eatery...

Both Mum and I regretted our choice of dinner... =(

Apparently we both got the two top selling dishes and were less than thrilled with the outcome. Normally I love Chicken Fried Chicken no matter how low it falls on the health-o-meter scale but my dish...The gravy just tasted like milky, melted velveta. >.<

Mum got Salmon Fish and Chips because our family loves the way my dad cooks fish and were fans of fish&chips when we went to England... So Mum ordered thinking that Rock Bottom had found a way to make salmon taste flake-y.

We were both wrong. =( Whoops!

-but-

I do stand by the three Cs of Rock Bottom:

Cocktails, Calamari & Coleslaw!

^Major yum! Highly recommended by me!

I can never resist calamari!

& they put Green Apple in the coleslaw!

srsly yummy

I don't usually like coleslaw so you know it was good!

After dinner we walked the theatre complex to decided where we could get dessert and coffee. As you can see from the picture, the architecture of downtown Denver is beautiful!

I am so excited at maybe going to see this! (You know, if I can afford tickets)

The Buell had very cool banners in the windows for Wicked.

So naturally, a picture had to be taken

I love being a tourist in my own state!

Right across from the Buell is a chic place, very classy.

We went in for some yummies and coffee for Mum.

Holy Amazing YumYums Batman!

The Crème Brûlée and the Chocolate Bomb were quite literally BOMB!

Go there. Order them. Srsly.

It was also super cute when my friend, Jared, came by the bar and said hi to Mum and me. I knew from Facebook that Jared was going to Wicked that night too and from texting him that he was at Limelight with his family for dinner... But what Mum said later was hilar!

She told me that Jared was heading through the restaurant toward us and I think she might have swooned a little... I introduced the two of them and we had a chitchat and then he returned to his table.

After he left, Mum said:

Kat, he is beautiful! I wanted to tell you that a striking young man was heading right for you!

Silly Mum, Jared is le gay! {tehe}

Both of our families walked out of Limelight at the same time, so we took pictures.

It was good-but-awkward times.

So, Mum and I went to sit and looked over our free programs...

And I got another fun little surprise!

 

Lea Michele is touring in the Spring Awakening cast!

You might recognize her from Glee! =]

 So anyways,

I am sorry Buell, but I did sneak a picture or two from inside...

 

The map back-drop as amazing!

 It gave me a techie-gasim!

Really the whole show gave me a techie-gasim!

I gotta say that I was swooning over the ensemble's Oz Dust costumes!

But costumes and sets weren't the only swoon-worthy parts...

 

 srsly. this Fieryo had me swooning.

It was a truly wonderful night!

Driving home was a totally different story...
